Can I get a work licence in Queensland?
If you’ve been charged with drink driving, the first question is usually the most urgent: will I still be able to drive to work? A work licence can let you keep driving for your job while you’re disqualified — but only if you meet strict rules, and only if you apply before you’re sentenced. Answer a few quick questions and we’ll tell you whether you’re likely eligible. It takes about a minute, nothing you enter is saved, and it isn’t a substitute for advice.

Common questions
Work licences, answered
What is a work licence?
A work licence, properly called a restricted licence, is a court order that lets you keep driving for work purposes during a disqualification for a lower-range drink or drug driving charge. It only covers driving connected to your employment — never personal driving like the school run or the shops.
Who can apply for a work licence in Queensland?
Generally, you need to have held an open licence when charged, have a reading under 0.15 (or a “relevant drug present” charge), not have been driving for work at the time, and have no conviction, disqualification, suspension or cancellation in the previous five years. The checker above walks through each of these.
When do I have to apply?
Before you are sentenced. A work licence must be applied for as part of your court process — if your matter has already been finalised, the opportunity is gone, so it’s important to get advice early.
Can I get a work licence for a high range drink driving charge?
No. At a reading of 0.15 or above there is no work licence available in Queensland, and refusing a breath or blood test is treated the same way. If that’s your situation, the focus shifts to reducing your disqualification — call us and we’ll explain your options. See our high range drink driving page.
How much does a work licence application cost?
Our fixed fee, including the application, is $2,990 — one upfront price with no hidden extras. Read more on our work licence page, or call 1300 952 255 for advice about your matter.
